Hello December...the countdown begins

T. Bone couldn't have been happier to wake up to snow flurries on the first day of his favorite month of the year. His birthday is 2 days after Christmas so December is a BIG month for him. Like his mama, he likes snow. He's been waiting patiently all fall for this and would like to see some accumulation so he can get out and snowboard. I like it in the hole up in the house by the fire with my hot toddy and watch it make the world outside all beautiful kinda way. That being said, the flakes are getting fatter and they're falling faster, and I was girlishly giddy to go out and take a walk. No matter what...the first snowfall always makes me feel the wonder and whimsy of the season. It was pretty and also pretty cold. That's December for you.

Miss Bit was very excited to break in her advent calendar, and yes I let her eat chocolate after she polished off her breakfast of champions this morning...pancakes soaked in syrup with a side of fresh sliced pear. She would have much preferred a side of bacon, for the record.

On the way to school this morning, Joy to the World came on and I shared with the kiddos that this song is always the processional after Christmas Eve mass. Miss Bit's eyes bugged out of her head and she said, "What, we sing Barney is dead at church!?!" I haven't laughed that hard in I cannot remember how long. She hears the traditional melody, but the playground lyrics have taken hold. They're catchy...I'll give her that.

Joy to the world,
Barney is dead -
They barbecued his head.
What happened to his body?
They flushed it down the potty.
(I just hope the song isn't ruined for me forever.)
I'm already sick of shopping so it's a good thing that I'm almost done. I don't like the crowds, or the gimmicks. I swear I have like 50 coupons in my wallet. The same store sends me 40% off coupons every week. I don't understand why they just don't adjust their prices and do away with the annoying onslaught of mailing after mailing. I want to go to another store, but as a cardholder I'm best off to shop there on Tuesdays unless I want to use my rewards, and well today's Wednesday. I personally think it's borderline ridiculous, but a shopping I will go nonetheless. I have it in my mind that things are going to get worse at the mall before they get better with only 23 more days to find the perfect gift and all. And I swear that when my kids sit down to write their letters to Santa, if their wish lists change at all, I am so going to find a family with an almost 10 and 6 year old and adopt them for the holiday.
For the record, I love Christmas. I just don't feel the chi of the rampant commercialism.
