we all went our separate ways this weekend.
ted was skiing deer valley, utah, lily was hanging out with friends in the neighborhood, and mike and i went on a 24 hour road trip.
we traveled on country roads listening to a moth podcast along the way.
i felt myself decompressing a little more with each farm field, with every word.
green lake was charming, yet abuzz even in the dead of winter.
i remember coming here with my dad and brother on cross country ski trips.
we skied all around the state on weekends every winter.
sometimes we didn't want to go.
we didn't want to wax our skis and layer up and cram into the back seat with all our gear.
the pull to play atari was strong when we were tweens.
the thing is i never regretted the time we spent moving through the snow on beautiful and sometimes treacherous trails.
together, yet alone.
i'm thankful my dad didn't give in to our slothful teenage tendencies.
after we checked in, mike and i agreed to stop at the goose blind.
they're known for their pizzas.
the pie was meh, but we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless and we were just around the corner from the thrasher opera house.
it was our destination for the evening.
we were in town to hear willy porter strum and croon.
he plays a wicked guitar and his voice is like none other.
we've been willy fans for decades although it's been awhile since we last watched him perform.
we scored front row seats for the show.
it was general admission, but we still felt a little special since we were a little late.
it made the quaint setting even more intimate...it felt like willy was playing just for us.
he played unconditional love.
it's a song we didn't expect to hear, but both love.
it was a good mix...a fun show.
it was a good mix...a fun show.
we slept in sunday morning and woke to a picturesque snowfall.
we called for late check out and finally hit the road in search of breakfast at lunch time.
we ended up at little corporal restaurant because we wanted diner food.
nothing fancy...just the greasy basics.
and coffee.
it hit the spot.
then we hit the road.
it snowed the whole way home.
the scenery was so bright, we needed our sunnies.
we listened to another podcast.
in the dark this time.
we're both hooked.
we may have to take another road trip so we can finish it.
we must.
we will.
this getaway was a good reminder of how good it feels to explore together.
and then how lucky we are to come home to our place...our people.
